A linen book, if you leave it alone, will outlive you.

Andreas sews every album by hand in the workshop. Almost nothing needs doing to keep one — but the few things that do matter, matter a great deal.

01Keep it flatStored upright a lay-flat spine slowly bows. Flat, on a shelf, with nothing heavy on top.02Away from the windowPigment ink is stable for a century in the dark and considerably less than that in direct sun.03Dry, not coldA normal living room is ideal. A basement is not — damp lifts the linen at the corners.04Clean hands, no glovesCotton gloves make you clumsy. Dry hands are better for the paper and much better for the corners.05Open itA book that is never opened stiffens. Opening it is the whole point and does no harm at all.

If something goes wrong

A loose spread, a lifted corner, a spine that has started to bow — send a photograph to the studio. Binding faults are remade at our cost for as long as you own the book, with no time limit and no receipt required.

Accidents are different but not hopeless. Andreas has rebound albums after a flood and after a dog. Rebinding an existing book costs €280; a full reprint and rebind is €640, because the files are still here.
