The Studio — 02

Four rules we have not broken yet.

They are not a philosophy. They are four decisions we made early, kept, and can explain to anyone who asks.

Fewer, longer

Eighteen weddings a year, never more. It is enough to live on and few enough that every couple gets a scouting visit, a real conversation, and an edit made when we are not exhausted.

When a date is gone it is gone. We will say so in the first email rather than keep you warm while we wait for something larger.

Two primes

A 35mm and a 50mm, almost nothing else. A zoom lets you stand still and change your mind; a prime makes you walk, and walking is how you end up close enough for the photograph to mean something.

The constraint also means we are never the two people at the back of the church with a metre of black glass pointed at your face.

No retouching, mostly

We correct exposure and colour. We do not change faces, bodies, or skies. A spot that appeared on the Thursday will usually go; the shape of your arm will not.

If that is not what you want, we are not the right studio, and we would rather say it now than argue about it in week four of the edit.

The honest invoice

One price, written clearly in the first email. No upsells on the day, no surprise album fee, no “delivery charge”, no charge for the extra forty minutes at the end.

Travel is at cost with receipts attached. If we get something wrong on a quote, we absorb it — that has happened twice and both times it was cheaper than the alternative.

If any of the four rules sounds wrong for your wedding, say so early. It is a much better conversation now than in week four of the edit.
